How to Calculate the Age Difference Between Two People

Age difference = later birth date − earlier birth date

For example, someone born on 10 March 2015 and someone born on 10 July 2018 are 3 years and 4 months apart. The person born in 2015 is older. That same gap can also be written as roughly 40 months, about 174 weeks, or around 1,218 days — different units for the exact same distance in time.

Why it’s trickier than it looks

You can’t always just subtract the years. If the later person’s birthday hasn’t “passed” within the month, you borrow days from the previous month, much like long subtraction.
