* This calculator converts gross (pre-tax) pay between frequencies. What Is a Salary Calculator?

A salary calculator is a free tool that converts your pay from one frequency to another — turning an hourly wage into an annual salary, an annual salary into an hourly rate, or any pay period into any other. Enter a single number and it instantly shows your hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly pay, all at once.

This is genuinely useful in everyday life. Many jobs advertise an hourly rate while others quote a yearly salary, which makes two offers hard to compare side by side. Converting everything to the same basis gives you a clear, apples-to-apples picture of what you'd actually earn — and helps you budget around whatever pay schedule you're on.

How to Use This Salary Calculator

  1. Enter your pay amount — any single figure you know.
  2. Tell it what that amount is — per hour, per week, per year, and so on.
  3. Set your schedule — hours per week, days per week, and weeks worked per year.
  4. Optional: adjust for unpaid time off — to see an hourly worker's effective annual income.

How to Convert Hourly to Salary

The core formula is simple:

Annual Salary = Hourly Wage × Hours per Week × Weeks per Year

Example: $25/hr × 40 hrs × 52 weeks = $52,000 per year

So a $25 hourly wage on a standard full-time schedule works out to a $52,000 annual salary. Drop to 50 working weeks (two weeks unpaid off) and it becomes $50,000. The number of hours and weeks you actually work is what changes the result.

How to Convert Salary to Hourly

To go the other way, just reverse it:

Hourly Wage = Annual Salary ÷ (Hours per Week × Weeks per Year)

Example: $52,000 ÷ (40 × 52) = $25.00 per hour

A full-time year is typically 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks). Dividing any annual salary by 2,080 gives a quick hourly estimate — handy for sanity-checking a job offer or a freelance rate.

Gross Pay vs Take-Home Pay

This tool shows gross pay — your earnings before any deductions. Your take-home (net) pay is what actually lands in your account after income tax, Social Security, Medicare, pension contributions, and any other withholdings. Net pay is always lower than gross, and the gap depends on your country, state, and personal situation. To estimate what you'll really take home, use our Paycheck Calculator.

Paid vs Unpaid Time Off

If you're salaried, holidays and vacation are usually paid, so taking them doesn't change your annual salary. If you're paid hourly, every unpaid day off is income you don't earn — so 10 unpaid holidays and 15 vacation days can meaningfully lower your effective yearly income. The adjustment option in this calculator lets you model that, which is especially useful for contractors and freelancers pricing their time.
