What Is an Age Calculator?

An age calculator is a free online tool that calculates your exact chronological age from your date of birth. Instead of doing the math yourself, you simply enter your DOB and the calculator instantly tells you how old you are in years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Our age calculator also works in reverse — you can calculate your age on any past or future date, which is useful for retirement planning, school enrollment, visa applications, insurance forms, and birthday countdowns.

This tool answers the most common question people type into Google: "how old am I?" — and it works for any date of birth, in any country, with full leap-year support.

How to Use This Age Calculator

Using our age calculator takes less than 10 seconds:

  1. Enter your date of birth in the "Date of Birth" field (year, month, day).
  2. Leave the second field as today's date if you want your current age — or change it to find your age on a specific past or future date.
  3. Click Calculate Age to see your exact age in years, months, days, weeks, hours, and minutes.
  4. Scroll down to see how many days until your next birthday and how old you've been in different time units.

The calculator works on mobile, tablet, and desktop. No signup. No download. No usage limits.

How Is Age Calculated? (The Formula)

The standard age calculation method — used in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, Pakistan, and most other countries — works like this:

Step 1: Years = Current Year − Birth Year
Step 2: If current month/day < birth month/day, subtract 1 from Years
Step 3: Months = remainder of full months since last birthday
Step 4: Days = remainder of days since the last completed month

Example: Born March 15, 1995 → on May 13, 2026
Age = 31 years, 1 month, 28 days

Our calculator uses this exact method and automatically handles leap years (February 29 birthdays are credited on February 28 in non-leap years for legal age purposes in most jurisdictions).

Why Calculate Your Age in Days, Hours, and Minutes?

Knowing your age in different units puts time in perspective. Here's why people use these calculations:

  • Age in days: Useful for newborn babies, infants, and pet age tracking. Many parents track baby age in days for the first year.
  • Age in months: Required for child medical records, vaccinations, and developmental milestones up to age 2.
  • Age in weeks: Pregnancy tracking, baby growth charts, and fitness milestones.
  • Age in hours, minutes, seconds: Fun trivia, motivational reminders, and "value of your time" calculations.
  • Age difference between two people: Use it for marriage planning, sibling age gaps, or genealogy research.

Age Calculator for Specific Situations

How Old Will I Be in 2030?

Set the "Age at the Date of" field to January 1, 2030 (or any future date) and the calculator will show your age on that date. This is helpful for retirement age planning, school graduation timelines, and visa eligibility.

How Old Was I on a Specific Date?

Change the second date field to any past date — like the day you got married, started your first job, or moved to a new country. The calculator will show exactly how old you were on that day, down to the day.

Age Calculator for Babies and Newborns

For babies under 2 years old, doctors typically track age in months and days rather than years. Just enter the baby's date of birth and today's date — the calculator shows total months and remaining days, which matches what pediatricians use on growth charts.

Age Difference Calculator

To find the age difference between two people, calculate each person's age separately using their date of birth and today's date — then subtract the smaller from the larger. We also recommend bookmarking this page for repeat use.

Age Systems Around the World

Most countries use the Western age system, which is what our calculator uses. Under this system, a baby is 0 years old at birth and turns 1 on their first birthday. However, some cultures count age differently:

  • Korean age: Historically, Koreans considered a baby 1 year old at birth and added another year on January 1. Korea officially switched to the international system in June 2023.
  • Chinese age (nominal age): Similar to traditional Korean age — babies are 1 at birth and gain a year at Lunar New Year.
  • Western/International: Babies are 0 at birth and gain a year on their birthday. Used in the US, UK, Europe, India, most of the world today.

This calculator uses the international (Western) standard, which is required for passports, visas, school records, and legal documents in virtually every country.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — the calculator uses the standard international age formula and correctly handles leap years, month-length variations, and edge cases like February 29 birthdays. Results match what your school, employer, or government would calculate.
Yes. The calculator uses the international Western age system, which is the standard in the US, UK, India, Pakistan, Canada, Australia, EU countries, and almost everywhere else. There are no regional restrictions.
Subtract the birth year from the current year. If the current month and day are before your birth month and day, subtract one more year. For example, if you were born September 20, 1990 and today is May 13, 2026: 2026 minus 1990 equals 36, but September hasn't arrived yet, so subtract 1 — your age is 35.
In non-leap years, people born on February 29 typically celebrate on February 28 (in most countries) or March 1 (in some). For legal age purposes, our calculator treats February 28 as the birthday in non-leap years, matching how most governments calculate it.
Absolutely. Just enter their date of birth instead of yours. This works for friends, family, pets, historical figures, or any record where you know the date of birth.
Because time keeps moving. The calculator counts the exact number of days you've been alive, then converts that into hours, minutes, and seconds. The values update each time you click "Calculate Age." It's a fun way to see just how much time has passed.
Yes. All calculations happen directly in your browser — no data is sent to any server, no signup required, and nothing is stored. Your date of birth stays on your device.
